Helena's Third Blog

Agenda Take a minute Blog/corrections Week 3: Quiz Reader's workshop HW : Finish books this week! Hello, it's Helena. Today, we all entered the classroom, relatively quiet. We got out our binder reminders to write down the agenda, and then watched the take a minute video. Then, Goldie went up to read her blog, which was nearly perfect. Good job, Goldie! She then chose me to be the next blogger, so I walked up to the blogging seat to start writing. For a bit, we discussed Mean Girls,  since Goldie mentioned it in her blog, and we gave the crew kids some appreciation for all their hard work. We ended up going over this week's song and lines again since most of the class wasn't here for them, including myself. Soon after, we started this week's quiz, which I did pretty well on. After that, we were free to silently read for the rest of class. Ms. Nakada later alerted us that we could pack up, followed by the ringing of the bell, marking the end of yet another day in Eng...

Agenda- Take a minute Blog + corrections Week 3: Lines Reader's workshop Homework- Finish books by this week! Helloooo, I'm Goldie. Nutrition felt empty, and the classroom felt the exact same. All my friends were off acting or leading tours full of elementary schoolers. The only other girls in the class, Daniella and Miriam, stood up at Ms. Nakada's desk to read their blog from yesterday. I already knew they wanted to pick me for today's blog because outside the classroom, Daniella told me she was going to choose me. I took my seat after trying to convince Liam to participate in the blog aside me. I actually never wanted him to do it with me, I kind of just asked that to spite him. We started off class by participating in our take a minute. I was entranced by the graphic of the ball rolling in the box, like a cat following a laser. Next, this week's lines were passed out. "Hanging Fire" by Audre Lorde. I felt empathetic towards the narrator, because I kn...

Daniella and Miriam's Third Blog

Agenda: Take a minute Blog/Corrections Week: Three song Readers workshop HW: Finish books this week Hi, it's me Daniella. Today, as we walked into class, we sat down quitely and started writing in our binder reminders. After the bell rang, Ms. Nakada started playing the take a minute. After the take a minute, Hriday came up and read his blog. Then, Ms. Nakada gave as a point, because they were no mistakes in his blog. After that, Ms. Nakada spun the wheel of names that included the people who hadn't yet done their blog. The wheel landed on my name, so I had to do the blog even though I didn't want to. On my way up to the blogging desk, I asked Miriam if she wanted to do the blog with me, and she said yes. After the blog, we listened to our song of the week which was "A Change Is Gonna Come" by Sam Cooke from 1964. After we finished the song, the class then discussed what it was about and the important people or things that we saw happen in the video. Next, we wro...

Rahm and Sam's [Hriday] Third Blog

Agenda: - take a minute - blog/corrections - week 3: question - readers workshop Homework: Finish books this week! Hello, it's me, Hriday! Today we all walked into class, talkative as usual, and settled down into our seats. We all copied the agenda down into our binder reminders (I was a little late to do so), and Ms. Nakada started our daily take-a-minute video. I did not take a minute, as I was scrambling to fill in the binder reminder entries I had missed while I was absent. Once the take-a-minute video was over, Jaden came up to read his blog, and Ms. Nakada corrected a few mistakes. Next, Jaden had to decide who he wanted to choose to be the next blogger, so he asked if anyone wanted to go. Nobody raised their hand (as usual). Since nobody raised their hand, Jaden wanted to do a large game of rock-paper-scissors with the people who had not done the blog yet. Over thirteen people stood up, and Ms. Nakada deemed that the game would be too time consuming. Ultimately, it was dec...

Jaden's Third Blog

AGENDA: take a minute blog corrections week 3: Grammar Quote readers workshop Homework: Finish books this week!     Hello, as you are well aware, this is Jaden. The class entered decently loudly, but quieted down by the time the bell rang. Quickly after the class started, the take a minute was played. Once the take a minute was done, Hunter went up to the front and started reading his blog. When Hunter finished, Ms. Nakada deemed his blog worthy of a point. Soon after, he chose me to do the blog. The class began doing the "week 3: Grammar." This week's Grammar was about words that are commonly used incorrectly including "bad" and "badly." After this week's Grammar was finished, we began this week's quote by Assata Shatur. Then, everyone wrote down what they thought the quote meant. After about a minute of writing, a couple of people shared what they thought it meant. Soon, readers workshop started and this continued until the end of class, put...

Hunter's Third Blog

Agenda - take a minute - blog + corrections - binder reminder + book summaries check - reader's workshop - week 2: quiz Homework Read toward finishing books by next week. Blog Hello, this is Hunter. Today started with us entering class, and Kingston slowly finding his way to his seat as he cannot see well. After this, we watched our take a minute video. Lev and Mikey proceeded to read their third blog, which ended up scoring us a class point. I then volunteered to write the next blog, therefore you're hearing me speak today. Next, Ms. Nakada clarified how we should write our book summaries in our binder reminders, and that we should write one every week. Summaries should have four sentences. The first one should have the book title (underlined), author, pages read that week, and what it's about. The next three sentences should each be a detail in your story. I recommend reading a book other than a dictionary, since it's somewhat difficult to read like a normal book, a...

Lev and Mikey's Third Blog

Agenda: Take a minute Blog corrections Week 2: lines Reader's workshop Hello! Today, we sat down in English class and wrote down the agenda. Ethan and Henry came up and read their blog, which had a few mistakes, so we, unfortunately, did not earn a point. Ethan then selected me to come up to write today's blog, and I asked Mikey to come up with me. He agreed, so now we are writing the blog. We listened to a part of Dr. King's speech to some Junior High students, and then read much more of the speech, as Dr. King is a slow speaker. We finished up the speech, including the poem Dr. King quoted, then we discussed what he meant and the general ideas of the speech. Hello, it's me, Mikey. After discussing Dr. King's speech, we began our reader's workshop. Ms. Nakada talked about our reading goals; 100 pages a week, and how we need to make a summary of our books every week. We all read silently until the bell rang, ending another English class.

It was a great blog, and had no mistakes. We then answered the question which was, "What Does it mean to be an ally?" After that, we listened to an excerpt of the song "We Shall Overcome," which is a protest song that was born in the civil right movements of the 60s, and is still used today. Lastly, Ms. Nakada went over how to summarize the book you were reading, and everyone started reader's workshop. Then, Ms. Nakada said that she will change the noveling chart to a books finished chart. Then, the bell rang, and another day of English class ended.

Kingston and Kellan's Third Blog

Agenda: Take a Minute Blog/Corrections Week 2: Grammar, Quote Reader Workshop HW: Read toward finish books by next week. Hello, it's us, Kellan, and Kingston. Today, we all filed into the classroom uniformly and sat down comfortably in our seats. We then proceeded to write down the aforementioned agenda in our binder reminders. I, (Kingston) injured my left wrist yesterday at the gym so writing and typing sucks, but I'll power through regardless. As we wrote, we watched the daily take a minute, which was deeply calming and introspective. Then, we read through Luke's blog and it was determined grammatically flawless. Then, we wrote down this week's grammar in our notebooks, which detailed the differences between the words assure, ensure, and insure. We determined that 'assure' means to confirm, 'ensure' means to guarantee, and 'insure' means to plan for payment. Next, we went over the quote from Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. We talked about body la...

He then selected me for the blog. We then listened to the song of the week "Shallow" by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper. The song was about if she was happy or if she needed something more like trying to connect with her, and the guy trying to fill a void with substances, the shallow is deep connections. Then, we did a readers workshop for ten to fifteen minutes. After we finished reading, we did an A.C.E. about the books we were reading. We then packed up, and the bell rang.

Agenda: take a minute  Blog corrections Week 1: Question  SPRING Reading Plan reader's/writers workshop HW : Read toward 100 pages for the week! Hi, I'm LaCurry Ball. Today, we walked into the class, chatting and we sat down. Jonny then ran inside with urgency and sat down because class is important. After we wrote down the agenda, and when we finished, Ms. Nakada called on Sigi to read her blog. We quietly listened as she read her blog and mentioned how I couldn't find the papers in the copy room. When she finished, I used mind games to get picked for the blog. After I moved to the blogging seat Ms. Nakada proceeded to ask us the Question of the week, which was "What are you excited/anxious about in 2026?" Ethan, Maya, Kingston, Lev and Molly then proceeded to share their response. When we finished, Ms. Nakada told us to start our SPRING SEMESTER Reading Plan. Sigi's Third Blog

Agenda - Take a minute - Blog corrections - Week 1: Grammar and Quote - Word of the Year Homework: Spring Semester Reading Plan    We entered the classroom, received new seats, and wrote down our first agenda after our break. A new student joined our class and took a seat as Ms. Nakada circled around and signed our schedules. Layla and Madison read their blog, which had almost no mistakes, and the class sang "Happy Birthday" to Hartley. For our new semester some students decided to start new notebooks. Even the kids who continued to use their notebook from the fall wrote down our grammar and quote for the week. Our grammar lesson covered commonly misused words, like affect and effect. Our quote was by Ralph Waldo Emerson and he said that the past is uncontrollable, but you should reflect and make the present as great as possible. Ms. Nakada, after struggling to get the worksheets, passed out papers that asked us to reflect on 2025 and plan for 2026. We all chose a word f...
