Layla's and Madison's Third Blog

AGENDA: Take a minute Blog-correction Week 18: Happiness Project  Reading Plan - gift of words HW - Make a reading plan for break      Hello! This morning we walked into the classroom and took our seats. Everyone took out their binder reminders to write down the agendas as Ms. Nakada started the take a minute video. After we meditated, Nell went up to read her blog. It was pretty good. Then, she chose Madison and me to do the blog. We went up and took our seats at the blogging table as everyone started to do their daily Happiness Project. I wrote my note of kindness to Hartley (she's pretty awesome). As everyone passed their notes around, Ms. Nakada nicely passed out little cards with the poem "Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost and candy canes. We discussed the poem before heading down to the library to get books to read over winter break. Some people checked out books, and we headed back to the classroom. When we got back in the c...

Nell's Third Blog

Agenda: Take a minute blog/corrections Week 18: Happiness Project Fall Reflection Letter HW: Make a reading plan for break Hello, it's me, Nell. As we walked into class, chatty as usual, Ms. Nakada started waiting for us to get quieter, until finally we were quiet enough for her to start the video. When Ms. Nakada finally started playing the take a minute video, she emphasized that her 6th period class got mad at her for pausing the take a minute video in the middle of the video. Thankfully for us, she waited until the video ended, and then paused it. After that, Hudson picked the next blogger, as we didn't have a blog yesterday, and Hudson was the blogger the day before. He had a hard time deciding who to pick and Molly decided it was a good idea to pick me, which I did not think was a good idea. Hudson ended up picking me and I walked up to the blogging desk. Then, Ms. Nakada gave us time to work on our happiness project papers. After everybody was done, Ms. Nakada gave us ...

AGENDA Take a Minute Blog/Corrections Week 18: Happiness Project Reader´s Workshop I.O. and B.A. Quiz HW: FINAL EXAM TOMORROW All make up work is due on 12/17 Hello, it's me, Hudson. As we walked into class and started writing the agenda down, Ms. Nakada started playing the take a minute on the board. Ms. Nakada was back today, so we resumed our regular schedule. This week, we are starting something called the happiness project, which is a series of activities that are proven to increase happiness if done regularly for about 30 days. The six activities all have something to do with having fun, reflecting on something that makes you happy, or being grateful. We wrote sticky notes to each other, then walked around, giving them to the person we wrote to. Then, Ms. Nakada gave us the rest of the class to read Inside Out and Back Again and take the quiz. Then, the bell rang, and our class ended.

Tesa & William's Third Blog

Agenda: - Take a minute - Blog/Corrections - Week 17: Quote and Question - Reader's workshop - Writer's workshop HW : Complete  "Inside out & Back Again"  by Friday BLOG: Hi kids! This is Tesa and William. This morning, students walked into the classroom with a moderate volume. As the students sat down, and began to write the agenda, Ms. Nakada played our daily take a minute (which was quite inspirational.) Next, Maya walked up, and read her blog to the class. She had little to no errors, and Ms. Nakada gave us a point. Maya called Tesa and I, and we walked up to the blogging desk. Once we began writing our blog, Ms. Nakada played our quote of the week. This week's quote was, "Besaydoo, we whisper to each other across the country." By Yale Kamara. We then listened to a podcast featuring Ada Limon, who was reading the poem our quote was from. Next, we moved on to our question of the week, which asks,  Can money buy happiness? A majority of the class a...

Maya's Third Blog

Agenda- Take a minute Blog corrections Reader's/writer's workshop Week 17: Grammar and Quote Novel Gallery Walk Homework- Complete Inside Out and Back Again by Friday Today is the eighth of December, and I am doing my third blog entry. Vance picked me to write next last Friday, I was supposed to write then, but due to the luncheon, there wasn't enough time for me to write. I am glad that Vance picked me, since Molly was supposed to on Thursday, but she didn't, of course. (Molly is the enemy.) Today, we walked into the classroom, chatty as always. I asked Ms. Nakada if I could sit in the blogging seat, because I knew that I was writing it and she nodded her head. I sat down and I sent her my NaNoWriMo submission before she signed into her Google account and I started blogging. Everyone had a few minutes to read Inside Out and Back Again . I spent most of my time writing the blog, since I am ahead in the book. The class went over a few chapters once we stopped reading. Th...

Vance's Third Blog

AGENDA take a minute blog corrections  week 16: Lines readers workshop NaNo Submissions HW Novel Submissions due Friday      Today we walked in the classroom talking quietly. Once we had all quieted down, we watched the take a minute, and read the blog, which had no mistakes. Good job Molly! Next, we watched the lines for this week, which turned out to be a Ted Talk. After the video finished, we talked about how only having one story or point of view would give you a very one-sided idea of the world. Once we had all written that down, we got time to read Inside Out & Back Again . When we had finished reading, we talked about communism for a little bit, then switched to talking about the other chapters. Finally, we were given time to work on/proof read our NaNo Submissions. After five minutes, the bell rang, and we filed out of the classroom.

Molly and Hartley's Third Blog

Agenda: - Take a minute - Blog corrections - Week 16: Song - Reader's workshop - NaNo Submissions HW: Novel Submissions due Friday! Hi. This is Hartley writing. Molly is supervising, because she wrote the agenda. Never mind. Hartley could NOT be trusted. So, it's Molly. We started class quickly. Then, we looked at Helena's blog. It was perfect... impressive. After this, Hartley and I were chosen for the Blog. A LOT of time has passed, and now we are writing, frantically. Hartley then grabbed my computer. Ok, in my defense, I tried to write, and Molly grabbed the computer from me. Also, she was rushing me while I was just trying to do my work. Extremely inconsiderate. It made my day worse. NOT uplifting. We had time to write small descriptions for each poem in the first part of Inside Out and Back Again. Luckily, while I was staring into space, Molly locked in and started the blog. She is my hero. Ignore the previous sentence. Molly stole the computer again. Hartley blew h...

Helena's Second Blog

Agenda Take a minute Blog/corrections Week 16: Question Reader's workshop NaNo Submissions HW: Novel submissions due Friday!      Today, everyone entered the class, only a little talkative. Ms. Nakada told us to quiet down so we could watch the take a minute video. After that, Miriam came up to read her blog, and chose me to be the next blogger since I hadn't gone yet. As a class, we corrected her blog with the proofreading marks we learned yesterday. Today's question was actually three questions: "Who is telling the stories? Who are they about? Who is missing?" We then had a short discussion about the lack of representation of certain people, cultures, themes, etc. in books. Reader's workshop was next, where we revisited our reading logs. Ms. Nakada then gave us some time for silent reading. We also had the opportunity to go to the library to get a book if we didn't have one. When silent reading time was over, Ms. Nakada gave us time to work on our NaNo S...

Miriam's Second Blog

Agenda Take a minute Blog/Corrections NaNo Finish! Week 16: Grammar - Quote NaNo Submissions HW - Novel Submissions due Friday!     Good morning! Everyone walked into the classroom chatty, then quieted down a little to watch the take a minute video. Once the video was over, we marked down our NaNo Wri Mo progress. Almost everybody had completed their novels. GOOD JOB! After that, we started our grammar, which was proofreading marks. Next, we wrote down our quote, "A lot of people notice when you succeed, but they don't see what it takes to get you there." Dawn Staley I think this women's basketball coach is saying, even though your hard work may not be seen, it leads to success. Next, we worked on our NaNoWriMo submissions which needs to include cover, title, author, image, about the author, excerpt, allusion, research and a short summary. That was our day, Miriam.
