Last Letters

HW:

Last Letters

  • To Me
  • To Yourself
  • To Next Years' Eighth Graders

Today (not the day in which I'm writing this, but the day in which this will be read), is our last English class of middle school. The feeling is a bit solemn, melancholic even, but not really. As we confront this milestone, we watch our no-longer-daily take a minute video, and it tells us we need to touch grass, which is ironic, seeing as the person in the video is in a dark room with no plants. Then, Mikey and Hudson go up to read their very last blog. Once that commenced, we took a poll of all the different places that we will end up once we leave this chapter of our lives behind. After that, Ms. Nakada read to us her letter dedicated to us, the Class of 2026. She gave us advice to help us tread the path before us and summarized all that we have experienced within these four walls through these past 174 days. We then began our very last English assignment: a letter to Ms. Nakada, a letter to ourselves to be mailed out in four years, and a letter to the eighth graders to come. We spent a good while on those, but eventually the bell, as it does, ended up ringing. So my final message to you all is as follows: As I look upon you, my fellow classmates, graduates, and friends, I must say, it was wonderful to have known you. And if we don't see each other again, though not for lack of trying, I hope, just know that you all were an incredible experience. I'm truly blessed to have gotten to know you, and I hope that this next chapter of your life will give way to many more.
